Cardiff Business Club: Nick Wheeler OBE

When? Monday 13th May, 6pm

Where? Hilton Hotel, Cardiff

How much? Free (lecture), £37.50 (dinner)

What? ‘Nicholas Charles Tyrwhitt Wheeler is the Founder and Chairman of Charles Tyrwhitt Shirts. He had the idea for Charles Tyrwhitt in 1986, whilst studying Geography at Bristol University. He set out to make the best shirts, using only the finest materials, at great value and with unbeatable service.

‘After a stint with strategy consultants Bain & Co, Nick went “full-time” in 1990. Financed by a foray into the classic car market, he started with 8 shirts and 8 ties in a single page leaflet.

‘This led to the opening of a Jermyn Street shop in 1997, a website in 1998 and overseas expansion with a Paris store in 2001 and a New York store on Madison Avenue in 2003. There are now 44 stores.

‘The company continues to grow rapidly in the UK and internationally with sales of £220M in 2018.

‘Nick is a non-executive director of The White Company and is married to its founder Chrissie Rucker. They have four children and live in Oxfordshire.

‘Nick was awarded an OBE for services to retail in December 2017.

‘Nick’s hobbies and interests include flying (helicopters), skiing, cycling (Lands End to John O Groats this September), tennis, shooting and photography.’

Cardiff Breakfast Club: Eddie Butler and Andy Thomas

When? Friday 17th May, 7.30-9.30am

Where? Sophia Gardens Cardiff Stadium

How much? £35

What? ‘Eddie Butler: Eddie is a famous former Welsh Rugby captain and renowned broadcaster. His voice is familiar to the nation and his rugby achievements legendary. He is one of very few Cambridge Blues that represented the University in three consecutive Varsity matches between 1976 – 1978. A native of Monmouthshire, Eddie is probably the “poshest” member of the famous and notorious Pontypool team of the 1980’s and yet integrated seamlessly with the likes of David Bishop and the Pontypool front row as he led them to many famous triumphs. Eddie is with us today as an ambassador of Prostate Cymru and still puts his body on the line in support of this fantastic Welsh charity having climbed five volcanoes in Ecuador as part of Operation Robot.

‘Andy Thomas: Andy is a force of nature as his work with Prostate Cymru testifies. He is one of Wales’ leading Consultants and for over 21 years has helped many through his work as a Consultant Urologist and is now senior partner of Glamorgan Urology. Andy is the Founder Trustee and Chairman of Prostate Cymru and through relentless high profile fundraising and PR has brought to the attention of thousands in Wales and beyond the importance to men of a “certain age” the seriousness of a silent but potentially deadly illness as well as the relative simplicity of getting “checked out” regularly.’
